Movement has more than one cause
Buildings can move through settlement, thermal change, moisture variation, structural alteration and other causes. A visual pattern is evidence to interpret, not a diagnosis on its own.
What deserves attention
Cracking that is progressive, repeated, displaced or associated with sticking openings and distortion deserves careful assessment. Historic repairs and nearby drainage or vegetation may also provide context.
When further investigation is needed
A survey may recommend monitoring, drainage checks, structural advice or another specialist investigation where the cause or progression cannot be established visually.
